How much does a generator cost?

We get this question A LOT! As you can imagine, there's some different factors involved in the total cost of buying the generator and getting it installed. That said, go check out our generator cost page to get a general price range and a breakdown of what impacts the total cost.

What size of generator do I need?

This is probably our second most frequent question. The short answer is that it all comes down to the size of your house or business AND what you're looking to power during an outage. If you're just looking to power a small amount of essentials (ex: a refrigerator, your wifi, and a few lights), then you can pretty easily get by with something like a 10kw standby generator from Generac or Kohler, or even a portable unit. If you want to power your whole home or business and want life to go on as normal without thinking about, then we're talking about a 24kw standby generator or something bigger.  Most people looking for the whole-home solution gravitate toward a 24kw or 26kw air cooled generator, while businesses are going to need a 48kw or bigger liquid cooled generator. Regardless, during the onsite estimate visit, our team will cover this with you and determine the right size generator based on your needs.

What's the difference between a portable generator and a standby generator?

Simple - convenience and capabilities. For those working with a more limited budget, portable generators allow for a backup power solution at a fraction of the cost of a standby generator. That said, it requires having to maintain fuel on site, refueling when needed, and manually getting it plugged in and fired up when there's an outage. They are normally also used primarily to power essentials, not the entire house. Standby generators come on automatically when the power goes out using natural gas or propane, have remote monitoring capabilities so that they're always ready to run without interruption, and can power the whole house. The right solution for you is going to depend on what you need the system to do and the budget for the project.

Do I have to buy my generator from NW Generator Pros in order to get it installed?

Nope! While it's often the most convenient option as our team will bring the generator to your home or business with them ensuring safe transport, That said, we'll happily install a generator you purchased somewhere else. As an example, we've had a fair amount of people get the 22kw Honeywell standby generator from Costco. We're flexible!

Are you cheapest installer around?
